Sending money FROM Tunisia to other
countries
Due
to the restrictive currency regulations, sending money from Tunisia to
other countries is only possible in very special exceptional cases, eg.
for the studying children or in business transactions. Closer
information can be obtained from the Tunisian Central Bank.
Sending
money TO Tunisia
There
are basically thre options for sending money to Tunisia:
Bank
transfer to a currency account with a tunisian bank
A
direct bank transfer from an European to a Tunisian bank account takes
about 3-4 working days (from the US it is 4-5 working days). The amount
transferred will be converted into Tunisian Dinars at the interbank
rate, which is published daily by the Tunisian Central Bank.
Currency Accounts can only be owned by non-tunisians and by privileged
tunisian companies. The direct bank transfer is the inexpensiest
transfer method.
Money
order by Moneygram
When
sending
money by Moneygram,
you pay the amount in the sending Moneygram office in cash or by credit
card. The receiver can fetch the money a few moments later in Tunisia
(in Tunisian Dinars) at one of the Moneygram offices or
correspondance bank offices there. Moneygram works together
with
various banks, in Tunisia eg. with the Banque Agricole. All
transfer and exchange costs have to be paid by the sender.
Money
order by WesternUnion
When sending money
by WesternUnion,
you pay the amount in the sending WesternUnion office in cash or by
credit
card (online payment by credit card is NOT possible for the moment to
Tunisia, due to increased fraudulent activities). The receiver can
fetch the money a few moments later in Tunisia
(in Tunisian Dinars) at one of the WesternUnion offices or
correspondance bank offices there. WesternUnion works together
eg.
with the Post Offices in Tunisia, so a withdrawal is possible at almost
every post office. A money order by
WesternUnion
is the transfer method that incurs the highests costs (all costs have
to be paid by the sender).
Quite a
few money transfers to Tunisia are taken as a direct result of
fraud,
scams or "Bezness"!
